When a homeowner approached Joe McMannus about a significant house renovation that entailed replacing their existing oil-fired warm air system and oil-fired 50-gallon water heater with a new energy-efficient hydronic heating system, he contacted Mark Ross at Salem Plumbing Supply in Beverly, MA, and the two quickly got to work.
The homeowner desired that the new system provide radiant floor heat on the first floor, panel radiators on the second floor, and an indirect water heater to suit their family’s domestic hot water needs.
In response, Mark contacted Gary Paul of Velocity Boiler Works for assistance with system design and the selection of the appropriate Velocity Boiler items for this restoration. They chose a Phantom II PHTM2150H high-efficiency, gas-fired condensing boiler and a Mega-Stor II, MS2-50, 50-gallon indirect water heater together. Gary submitted a near boiler pipe schematic for the system while Mark worked on the radiant heat and panel radiator design.
The homeowners were able to cross everything off their wish list thanks to the collaboration of Joe, Mark, and Gary.
The Phantom II boiler has a 95% AFUE rating, a 10:1 turndown, adaptive combustion, and rate-based reset, allowing it to run at maximum efficiency at all times. The Mega-Stor II, MS2-50, meets all of their hot water requirements now and in the future.
PATConnect, a commissioning, diagnostic, and service tool comprised of a Bluetooth adapter and a mobile device, was used to set up and commission the boiler. The software connects to any Velocity Boiler Works condensing boiler. The program includes startup, troubleshooting, and service wizards, the option to make control tweaks, and the ability to produce service reports, data logs, and site photographs.
