Press the status button. Watch the bottom line of the display during the start-up status. Does it ever display “Direct Ignition”?
Install manometer on the incoming gas line tap on the gas valve and open 3-5 turns. Does the pressure change when the control displays “Direct Ignition”
Gas valve is working. Go to “Ignition Problems” on the main menu.
Is the switch in the on position on the gas valve rectifier?
This is the little black box connected to the gas valve that the control harness will plug into.
Unplug control harness from the gas valve harness. On the Phantom-80 thru 120 unplug blue and yellow wire connector from gas valve harness connector. Measure voltage at the control harness for 24Vac when “Direct Ignition” is displayed. Is there 24Vac?
When the display shows “Direct Ignition” you will only have 4 seconds to get a voltage reading.
Disconnect the control harness from the rectifier box. Press the “Status” button. On the control harness connector check for 24Vac when the bottom line of the Status screen displays Direct ignition. Is there 24Vac?
Reconnect gas valve harness and control harness. Remove bolt holding the gas valve harness to the gas valve. Wait for “Direct Ignition on the status screen display and test the two extreme outside holes for 24Vdc. Is there 24Vdc?
If gas valve harness has failed normally harness will have a burnt electrical smell.
Check voltage at the control terminals J8-2 & J5-2 when display is in “Direct Ignition”? Is there 24Vac?
When the display shows “direct ignition” you will be able to test for voltage for 4 seconds, then the control will cycle to a different screen.
Replace the control low voltage harness back onto the rectifier. Remove the rectifier from the gas valve by removing the small screw. Set your meter to DC Volts. Meter the two terminals on the bottom of the rectifier. Watch the status display for Direct Ignition. During Direct Ignition do you have 24Vdc?
You will have 4 seconds to test for voltage when the display goes to “Direct Ignition”
Measure voltage on the Sage2 control for 24Vac on terminates J8-2 & J5-2 when the status display is showing “Direct Ignition” Is there 24Vac on the sage2 control?
You will have 4 seconds to test for voltage when the display goes to “Direct Ignition”
Replace gas valve.
Replace gas valve DC harness.
Replace boiler low voltage harness
Replace Sage Control
Return to main menu and troubleshoot failure to ignite
Replace the Rectifier
Rectifier Switch
