What is the difference between a commercial and residential boiler?
Any boiler less than 300,000 BTUs is considered a residential boiler; any boiler 300,000 BTUs and greater is a commercial boiler.
What size boiler do I need?
The boiler size needed depends on the construction of the house, the size and type of heating system, the geographical location of the house and the amount of radiation in an existing structure. A detailed heat loss should be done by a qualified heating contractor to determine proper sizing.
What type of venting do I need?
It is best to discuss your venting requirements with your contractor. Velocity offers a number of options to suit any venting requirement.
Should I be concerned about combustion air?
Both quantity and/or quality of combustion air can affect the safe operation of your boiler. It is necessary to ensure that the boiler is provided with enough clean air for proper operation. For a more detailed explanation, refer to your installation manual.
What size water heater do I need?
The number of people, type of fixtures, number of bathrooms, and usage patterns of the inhabitants determine the appropriate tank size. This question should be discussed with a qualified contractor to determine your individual needs.
What is the proper temperature for my Mega-Stor water heater?
Set the thermostat as low as possible to satisfy your individual needs. High temperatures (125°F plus) can lead to scalding.
Which type of fuel is more economical?
The fuel sources today are very volatile and make it difficult to give an accurate response to this question. In making a fuel source decision, other factors come into play – availability, price, servicing, etc. A contractor can provide the necessary advice on making this important decision.
How old is my boiler?
A series date is listed on the data plate attached to your boiler. The series date is the date of manufacture.
Does my boiler require maintenance?
Yes. Every product requires different periodic maintenance. Refer to the maintenance section of your owner’s manual. If you don’t have your owner’s manual, a copy is available here.
My boiler isn’t working. What do I do?
It is recommended that you do the following:
- Check that the thermostat is set to heat and the temperature is turned up.
- Check that the power is on to the unit.
- Refer to the trouble shooting section of your owner’s manual. If you don’t have your owner’s manual, a copy is available here.
- If you are unable to correct your problem, contact your heating professional.
